Chapter 3: Higher Than We Knew
The stakes for the upcoming cryptocurrency launch become clear to Manoush and Jen.
Jen and Manoush are gambling their future on new technology that hasn’t been proven and a virtual currency that doesn’t exist. With their stress intensifying, they meet up with another pair of female co-founders launching a media company on the Civil platform: Cannabis Wire. Alyson Martin and Nushin Rashidian investigate and report on the burgeoning marijuana industry. Civil, they believe, is their best shot at growing Cannabis Wire into a hardy, sustainable publication (pun intended). As they get to know each other, the four women confide their various anxieties about the impending launch of Civil’s cryptocurrency. What if the public doesn’t buy into this big idea to save journalism? What if the tokens these founders have been granted are worthless? The conversation brings Manoush and Jen to a realization that the stakes are higher--and more personal--than they knew.
